About the Event
Bernie Konz of the Manukau 4WD Club, has announced their challenge! Sunday 3 July. Meeting at Waitomo Fuels car park Bombay 9.30am. A short 15min drive from here to the place of your destruction.
Raft Race and Mystery item assembly. All materials and tooling (if any) will be supplied by the challenger, that’s us. The Challenged, that’s you, will have first choice from 2 exact same piles from which you will build your raft. 4 persons will travel upon the water and collect a mystery item.
This item will be assembled upon your return. You can bring as many raft builders and mystery item assemblers you like, we are not afraid. But a minimum of 4 persons or 1 person 4 times must traverse the water. First team to complete all, will be declared the winner.
The Challenged, that’s you, will supply 4 life jackets for your paddlers, The challengers, that’s us, will supply all on water safety craft. After match function refreshments will be supplied. A subsequent update….
The site of the challenge is where they had their Winch Challenge Comp on Potter Rd, near Pokeno, around 2 years ago next to the Waikato River where the pits were set up. The idea is to make a raft. We have first choice of two piles of similar building materials We then paddle the raft out to a boat positioned offshore, where we collect more items, then return to shore and make another item. We don’t know what that will be yet.
Both Manukau and Auckland teams will not have been part of the planning, therefore no advantage. Health and safety will be a top priority. Minimum of 6 Auckland club members would be great Contact Paul Brinkman if you can help to win this challenge! A bit of background….
The Ramfury Shield dates back many years and is the trophy for the winner of an annual (or occasional) challenge between the Auckland and Manukau 4WD clubs as set by the previous loser. Auckland 4WD Club are the current holders.
The contests do not involve 4WD vehicles but can be quite quirky… we won the last event which involved Croquet games on a farm paddock!
